A Life Changing School and a Life Changing Opportunity

Each year, Kolbe Cathedral depends on gifts from alumni and other friends of the school to close the gap between the operating expenses and income from tuition, and other sources. Now more than ever, your contributions are needed to help support our scholarship and financial aid programs. These vital programs allow us to remain affordable and offer much needed assistance to many students who desire a Kolbe Cathedral education. By donating to Kolbe Cathedral, you give more than money, you give a well-deserving community of children an equity of opportunity; every one of our students graduates, every one of them gets accepted to college, and every one of them is given a unique opportunity to excel in life. Our school has changed the course of thousands of children’s lives over the years, and has empowered them to change their fate and the fate of their families and communities. But we can only continue to do this with your support. Please be a part of changing a deserving child’s life. Contact Rick Ryan at rryan@kolbecaths.org today to see how your donations can make that happen.

Annual Harvest Fund

We are proud to announce that Kolbe Cathedral will launch its first-ever fund in 2021-2022. Our Annual Harvest Fund will provide vital, flexible-use resources and discretionary income that will allow Kolbe Cathedral to sustain its educational mission. The proceeds from the 2021-2022 Annual Harvest Fund will go to student financial aid and to much-needed building upgrades.

Endowment Fund

An endowment is an aggregation of assets invested by an institution to support its mission in perpetuity. It represents an understanding between donors and an institution that links past, current and future generations. Unlike annual gifts which are expended upon receipt, an endowed gift keeps giving over time as the invested capital funds continue to grow. With up to 5% of endowment returns spent annually, and in addition to many other advantages, it enables Kolbe Cathedral to have a financial reserve for operating expenses and financial aid which supports its students and their underserved community.

Reasons to Give

A New Start

In May 2019, the Diocese of Bridgeport delegated all financial and academic governance to an independent Kolbe Cathedral Board of Directors. In 2021, the Kolbe Board hired its first-ever Director of Development and an Assistant Director of Development & Alumni Relations to help develop a robust and sustainable model for donor cultivation, solicitation, accountability, and stewardship. Our plan includes substantially growing the support of alumni, parents, donors, and friends, and launching a new group of fundraising initiatives:

  • Major Gift Campaign
  • Annual Fund (Our “Annual Harvest”)
  • Annual Golf Tournament (The “Kolbe Cathedral Cup”)
  • Celebrity Breakfast/Speaker Series (Our “Kolbe Conversations”)
  • Grant Writing Effort
  • A Planned Giving Project

An Unparalleled Rate of Success

Private, Catholic education for the underserved has historically produced better outcomes for students than a public education. Our faith-based, smaller classrooms are designed to be safe environments that are more conducive to learning.

Our current student body of 325 is 45% Black, 43% Hispanic and 12% Asian/White. These students share the same difficult socioeconomic challenges, but in stark contrast to the public high schools, Kolbe Cathedral graduates 100% of its students, with a 100% college acceptance rate.
