Kolbe Cathedral Preparatory School

Beyond the Classroom

Student Life

A small school in a big city — where students get known by teachers, coaches, counselors, and each other.

A Typical Day

Long blocks, full afternoons

A typical Kolbe day is four 80-minute classes plus athletics, extracurricular activities, college-prep, clubs, and councils. Long blocks make room for real teaching; afternoons make room for the rest of who a student is.

A Multicultural Community

A reflection of Bridgeport

Kolbe's student body is roughly 45% Black, 43% Hispanic, and 12% Asian/White — a reflection of Bridgeport itself, built on the conviction that this diversity is a strength, not an obstacle.

Clubs & Councils

Join one — or start one

Students are encouraged to join — and to start — clubs that match their interests. The small size of the school means you can start something new and watch it become real.

  • Service Organizations

This is a sample of what’s active — clubs and activities form around student interest each year, and new students hear the full lineup at orientation.

Mentorship & Support

Built on relationships

Kolbe is built on relationships — adults who stay, support that is part of the building, and a standing invitation for families to be part of the conversation.

  • Faculty who stay

Faculty average 13 years at Kolbe — so students spend four years in a building where adults remember them, their families, and their stories.

  • On-site social worker

The school employs a social worker, Mrs. Bacchus, so support for students' wellbeing is part of the building, not an afterthought.

  • Chat and Chew

A parent support series — biweekly Monday-morning conversations for caregivers on goal setting, overcoming obstacles, and parents as teachers.

Athletics as Community

Game days bring everyone out

12 varsity sports across three seasons make Cougars athletics a hub of school identity. Game days are how families meet each other — and how a small school feels its size in the best way.
